My passion for leather work... began in early adolescence. I took leather working in junior high school shop. Shortly after that, my grandfather gave me a set of beginner’s tools. I began with kits and commercial patterns, but after a year or so, began to design my own projects.
What excites me about saddle making, whether English or Western, is the complexity of the task. There are many steps, each requiring a certain skill or knowledge. And there’s always a better way to do something, always a new bit of lore to learn from another craftsman. But there’s nothing as fine as the sense of accomplishment that comes with the completion of a good job. I can’t take my eyes off it. "Did I do THAT?"
